1981 Donruss, Jim Barr

#412 Jim Barr

Here is the card of Jim Barr that I got signed through the mail last November. It took just ten days to get this card back from Jim.

Jim pitched in the Majors for twelve seasons. Two of those seasons were with the Angels and the rest were with the Giants. He started most of his career and he reached double-digit wins in six of those seasons. Unfortunately, he also had double-digit losses in seven seasons.

His best season probably was his 1974 campaign. He went 13-9 that year and posted a career best 2.74 ERA. For his career, Jim was 101-112 with 12 saves and a 3.56 ERA.

Jim made some history during his first full season in 1972. That year, over two starts, Jim set the record for most consecutive batters retired when he sat down 41 straight batters. That record stood thirty-five years before being tied by Bobby Jenks in 2007 and then broken by Mark Buehrle in 2009.

If that wasn't a 1981 card, I'd say he was warming up in front of a typical Florida Marlins crowd. Seriously though, nice get for you Z. I remember these cards so well because I started collecting in 1981 and we could get these Donruss packs 8 for a buck.
