The College World Series finals are here. Unlike in past years, when the contest has been wrapped up by now, this one is still going strong and down to two contestants- Greg and Joey. Heading into the finals, Joey has a 17-13 lead. Joey got 3 points in the first phase and, having picked the finals participants, has 14 points through the second phase. Greg got 5 points in phase one and has 8 points through phase two.
In order for Greg to come back and win this thing, Oregon State has to win the Series in three games (which will tie the two at 17 points) with 17 or fewer runs scored in the three games. If Arkansas wins, Oregon State wins in two, or Oregon State wins in three with 18 or more runs scored, Joey will pull off the win.
It is going to be fun to watch how this thing plays out. I have never had to go to runs scored in this contest, so I am looking forward to putting that variable into play.

College World Series Contest, Phase 2
In case you haven't noticed, I've been running a little contest here for the past two weeks that revolves around the College World Series. Eight people have already entered and have a tiny head start. But, it is not too late to get in on the action. There are plenty more points to be earned and no one is even close to locking this thing up yet. So here is all you have to do- fill out a College World Series bracket.
Keep in mind that this bracket is nothing like filling out a March Madness bracket. The reason for that is because of the loser's bracket. But, I am going to try to make this as simple as I can. Here is my homemade bracket. Click on it to hopefully see a bigger view.
Here is a how the bracket breaks down. There are two groups in the bracket- A and B. Each group has six games in it. All you have to do is guess who is going to win each of the games as they advance towards the championship round.
For instance, group A has Oregon St. and UNC squaring off in game 1 and Washington and Mississippi St. going in game 2. Pick who is going to win each of those games and then those two teams will square off in game 3. The losers of games 1 and 2 will then square off in game 4. Then, the loser in game 3 plays the winner of game 4 in game 5.
At that point, there will be one team left in the group that is 2-0 (winner of game 3) and one that is 2-1 (winner of game 5). Those two teams play in game 6, which is an elimination game. If the 2-0 team loses, they play a game 7 and the winner advances to the championship. If the 2-0 team wins game 6, they go straight to the championship without game 7. BUT, for the sake of this bracket, I am going to count games 6 and 7 as one game. Just pick who you think is going to advance. It doesn't matter how they do it. I call it game 6/7.
After that, you should have a team advancing out of group A. Do the same for group B. Those two teams are your final teams. In the CWS, they play a best of three series for the championship. Pick who you think will win it all and if they will win it in two games or three. Then, for a tie breaker, guess how many runs will be scored in the championship series (the final two or three games).
It might be easier for you to fill it out on paper first. But to enter the contest, leave a comment looking something similar to this.
A1: UNC
A2: Washington
A3: UNC
A4: Oregon St
A5: Washington
A6/7: UNC
B1: Arkansas
B2: Florida
B3: Florida
B4: Texas Tech
B5: Arkansas
B6/7: Arkansas
Arkansas over UNC in two games, 9 runs scored
For the sake of the tie breaker, DO NOT pick a number already chosen by someone else. Even if your teams do not make it to the finals, the tiebreaker will still apply to you in the event of a tie.
If you guess every game right, including how many games will be played in the finals, you can come out with 22 points.
The CWS begins at 3:00 PM, eastern, on Saturday, June 16. So, all entries must be in by that point. If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. Or, just ask in the comments.
Here are the standings so far. All correct guesses were worth one point and nobody picked the two and three seeds that made the CWS.
Greg- 5 points- Florida, Texas, UNC, and two points for pimping the contest, one on blogger and one on twitter
Kin- 5 points- Florida, Texas Tech, Texas, UNC, Oregon St
Wilson- 5 points- Florida, Arkansas, UNC, Oregon St, and pimped on blogger
Joey- 3 points- Florida, UNC, Oregon St
Jeff- 3 points- Florida, Texas Tech, Oregon St
Lost Collector- 2 points- Texas, UNC
Rod- 1 point- Oregon St
John- 0 points
There is only a five point differential between first and last, so this is still anyone's to win. Even if you didn't enter the first phase, you can still get in on the action and have a legitimate shot at winning. Again, the winner of this will be taking home a blaster of Topps Series Two.
Good luck and thanks for playing!

2018 College World Series Contest
It's that time again! It is time for my ninth annual College World Series Contest.
Today, the NCAA announced the 64 teams that will be competing for the 2018 College World Series championship. To commemorate it, I am holding the ninth annual College World Series contest here at Autographed Cards. It is going to be a couple of weeks before the main phase of the contest starts, but you can earn some bonus points here that could make a difference when the main portion gets going. All you have to do right now is pick the eight teams that are going to be playing in Omaha. Here are the teams to choose from.
Slot One
1. Florida
1. NC State
2. Jacksonville
2. Auburn
3. Florida Atlantic
3. Northeastern
4. Columbia
4. Army
Slot Two
1. Texas Tech
1. Georgia
2. Louisville
2. Duke
3. Kent State
3. Troy
4. New Mexico St
4. Campbell
Slot Three
1. Arkansas
1. East Carolina
2. Southern Miss
2. South Carolina
3. Dallas Baptist
3. Ohio St
4. Oral Roberts
4. UNCW
Slot Four
1. Texas
1. Ole Miss
2. Indiana
2. Tennessee Tech
3. Texas A&M
3. Missouri St
4. Texas Southern
4. St. Louis
Slot Five
1. Stanford
1. Coastal Carolina
2. Baylor
2. UConn
3. Cal St Fullerton
3. Washington
4. Wright St
4. LIU Brooklyn
Slot Six
1. Clemson
1. Florida St
2. Vanderbilt
2. Mississippi St
3. St. Johns
3. Oklahoma
4. Morehead St
4. Samford
Slot Seven
1. North Carolina
1. Stetson
2. Purdue

Slot Eight
1. Minnesota
1. Oregon St
2. UCLA
2. LSU
3. Gonzaga
3. San Diego St
4. Canisius
4. Northwestern St
All you have to do is pick one team from each slot for a total of eight teams. In the past, for every team that you picked that made it into the College World Series, you got one point. I mixed it up a bit a few years ago and I am going to stick with this format. Now, any team you pick that makes it to Omaha gets as many points as their seed. So, if you make the safe bet and pick the one seed correctly, you get one point. But, if you pick the dark horse four seed and get lucky, you get four points for that pick. If you don't feel like participating right now, that's fine. You can enter the second phase without participating in the first, but you will have some ground to make up.
This blog has been in the doldrums of late since I am lucky to post a card twice a week. So, to get a few extra contestants in the contest, you can get one bonus point just by pimping this contest on your blog and by retweeting my link on Twitter (@zmills40). Just leave a link in the comments and I will chalk you up a point. Yes, you can get two free points just by pimping and retweeting.
Here is the format that your entry (comment) should look like.
Slot 1: Army
Slot 2: Duke
Slot 3: ECU
Slot 4: Indiana
Slot 5: Baylor
Slot 6: Clemson
Slot 7: Stetson
Slot 8: LSU
Link to your blog (which can be left on a separate comment, but must be submitted by Thursday night)
Keep in mind that the main portion of this contest is filling out a College World Series bracket when that field is determined in a couple of weeks. Every year, there are a couple of people that enter the first phase of the contest that never end up filling out a bracket. Those people have yet to win this contest.
As for the prize of this contest, I will be giving out a blaster of 2018 Topps Series 2. I used to give out signed photos that I got at the CWS, but they have quit bringing guys in to sign. But, at least you know what the prize is up front instead of waiting to see what I come home with.
All entries have to be left as a comment on this blog. Also, all entrants need to have a blogger profile to enter. No anonymous entries.
If you have any questions, ask in the comments or email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com (or message me on Twitter). The deadline to enter the first phase of this contest is 11:00 AM (central) Friday and the retweet and link must be posted by midnight Thursday. Good luck and thanks for playing.

1991 Score, Donovan Osborne
#677 Donovan Osborne
Here is the third and final card that I won in a Twitter contest in 2015. This card was actually the main prize and the other two cards were just thrown in. Those two cards featured Eric Bullock and Don Slaught.
Donovan pitched in the Majors for nine seasons. He spent the majority of the time with the Cardinals, but spent the last two with the Cubs and Yankees. Over his career, he racked up a 49-46 record with a 4.03 ERA.
His best season was with the Cards in 1996. That season, he won a career high 13 games while posting a 3.53 ERA and 134 strikeouts, both also career highs.
Donovan was the thirteenth pick in the 1990 draft out of UNLV. He made his Major League debut just two years later.

1991 Leaf, Eric Bullock
#470 Eric Bullock
About a month ago, I posted a card of Don Slaught that I won in a Twitter contest. This card is one of the two others that was included with the Slaught.
This one features former Astro, Twin, Phillie, and Expo, Eric Bullock. Eric played in parts of seven seasons in the Majors and appeared in 131 games over that time. At that level, he was a .205 hitter with a home run and 12 RBI.
The position listed on this card sums up Eric's career- pinch hitter. Despite appearing in 131 games, Eric only had 146 at-bats. Even with playing part of a season in the American League, Eric only started 17 games in the field. In fact, he only played the field 33 times during his whole Major League career. I have posted a card of a pinch runner on here before, but this is the first one listed as a pinch hitter.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year. See you sometime in 2018!

College World Series Contest Final Results
The College World Series is not over, but my contest is. With nobody picking LSU or Florida to win it all, there is no point dragging this thing on. Running away with the contest this year was Wilson! Great job! I do not think I have your address, so please email it to me at zman40 at hotmail dot com and I will get your prize out to you Thursday.
As for the prize, I have some bad news. The College World Series quit bringing in former star players to sign autographs at Fanfest. Those signed 8x10s were always my go-to prize for this contest. But, I did dig up an old Dennis Eckersly 8x10 that I still had an extra of. And I am throwing in an official CWS bobblehead stadium giveaway and a blaster of Topps Series 2.
Here are the final results. Total (phase 1, phase2)
B Man 9 (8,1)
Greg 4 (2, 2)
Lost Collector 8 (4, 4)
Rod 5 (1, 4)
NMC 9 (3, 6)
Joey 8 (5, 3)
Wilson 13 (5, 8)
Thanks again to all that participated. I hope to see each and everyone of you back next year!

All you have to do is pick one team from each slot for a total of eight teams. In the past, for every team that you picked that made it into the College World Series, you got one point. I mixed it up a bit a few years ago and I am going to stick with that format.
Here is the format that your entry (comment) should look like
1. Yale
2. Texas
3. Arizona
4. LSU
5. Baylor
6. Indiana
7. TCU
8. Florida

Keep in mind that the main portion of this contest is filling out a College World Series bracket when that field is determined in a couple of weeks. Every year, there are a couple of people that enter the first phase of the contest that never end up filling out a bracket. Those people have yet to win this contest.
As for the contest winnings, I will be bring back some signed 8x10s from Omaha. Some of the ones that I have given out in the past include Bruce Sutter, Steve Carlton, Dennis Eckersly, Barry Larkin, Rollie Fingers, Jim Palmer, John Smoltz, and Frank Thomas. Who will be there this year is anyone's guess.
All entries have to be left as a comment on this blog. Also, all entrants need to have a blogger profile to enter. No anonymous entries.
If you have any questions, ask in the comments or email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. The deadline to enter the first phase of this contest is 3:00 pm (central) Thursday and the retweet and link must be posted by midnight Wednesday. Good luck and thanks for playing.

College World Series Contest Final Standings
The College World Series is not over, but this contest is. Nobody picked Arizona to reach the finals and only one person picked Coastal Carolina, but did not pick them to win. So, there is no point in dragging this out any longer.
Here are the final standings: Total (phase 1, phase 2)
The Lost Collector: 10 (7, 3)
Greg Z: 8 (5, 3)
Wilson: 8 (4, 4)
Superduperman: 7 (3, 4)
Need More Cardboard : 7 (2, 5)
Brandon: 7 (3, 4)
Joey: 5 (1, 4)
Play at the Plate: 5 (3, 2)
John: 2 (2, 0)
Jimmy: 2 (2, 0)
So AJ, send me your address when you get a chance and I will get your winnings out to you.
Thanks to all that participated. I am already looking forward to next year.

College World Series Contest, Phase 2
In case you haven't noticed, I've been running a little contest here for the past two weeks that revolves around the College World Series. Ten people have already entered and have a tiny head start.
For instance, group A has UC Santa Barbara and Oklahoma St. squaring off in game 1 and Arizona and Miaimi going in game 2.
A1 OSU
A2 Miami
A3 OSU
A4 UCSB
A5 Miami
A6/7 Miami
B1 TCU
B2 Coastal Carolina
B3 TCU
B4 Texas Tech
B5 Texas Tech
B6/7 TCU
TCU over Miami
2 games
9 runs
For the sake of the tie breaker, DO NOT pick a number already chosen by someone else. Even if your teams do not make it to the finals, the tiebreaker will still apply to you in the event of a tie.
If you guess every game right, including how many games will be played in the finals, you can come out with 22 points.
The CWS begins at 3:00 PM, eastern, on Saturday, June 18. So, all entries must be in by that point. If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. Or, just ask in the comments.
Here are the standings through Phase 1
The Lost Collector: 7 (correctly picked two #2 seeds)
Superduperman: 3
John Sharp: 2
Joey Dean: 1
Greg Z: 5
Play at the Plate: 3
Jimmy: 2
Need More Cardboard: 2
Wilson: 4
Anonymous Brandon: 3
This thing is anybody's to win. Good luck!
If you think I might have made an error in the scoring, just let me know. I will be happy to look into it.

Keep in mind that the main portion of this contest is filling out a College World Series bracket when that field is determined in a couple of weeks. Every year, there are a couple of people that enter the first phase of the contest that never end up filling out a bracket. Those people have yet to win this contest.
Normally, the prizes for this contest are whichever autographs I am able to snag in Omaha for the opening weekend. This year, my son has a tournament that weekend and we are not going to be able to make it up there until Monday. So, I am going to miss out on getting those autographs for prizes. Luckily, I have a little stockpile from previous CWS trips, so here is what the prizes are going to be.
Those are 8x10s signed by Jim Palmer, Dennis Eckersly, Curt Schilling, and Frank Thomas and an unsigned 2015 CWS ball. Some of you may have won one of the 8x10s in previous years, but there should be something new there for all of the past winners.
If you have any questions, ask in the comments or email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. The deadline to enter the first phase of this contest is 11:00 am (central) Friday and the link must be posted twelve hours prior to that. Good luck and thanks for playing.

College World Series Contest Final Results
I have been meaning to post this for the past two days, so here it finally is. After counting and recounting to make sure everything is correct, it is time to announce the winner of the College World Series Contest. This year's winner is Superduperman99!
I know the CWS is still being played, but it doesn't matter. Nobody picked Virginia to even be in the finals. Three people picked Vanderbilt to be in and they all picked them to win in three games. This contest has been over since Saturday night, but I have just been too busy to tally and post.
It was a close finish this year. Greg Z had the best bracket with nine points heading into the finals. Unfortunately, he did not pick too well in phase one. Superduperman and B Man each had eight points heading into the finals. But, Superduper edged out Bman by picking two seed Arkansas to head to Omaha. That pick won it for him.
Superduperman- Email me your address to zman40 at hotmail dot com and I will get your prizes mailed out to you as soon as possible.
Thanks to all that entered. I hope to see you all back next year!

College World Series Contest Prizes
Here is the majority of the prizes for this year's CWS Contest. The prizes consist of 8x10s signed by Dave Winfield, Curt Schilling, and Frank Thomas. I may also throw in a pack of Series 2 or Archives and there may be an added prize that I throw in a month later. But, that remains to be seen. Just expect these three photos and a pack of cards.
As for as the tourney, Vanderbilt is in the finals. Florida and Virginia are duking it out right now with Virginia with the late lead. If they hang on to win, this contest is already done. If Florida comes back, the contest will then be done. Three people picked Vandy in the finals and all three picked them to win it. Nobody picked Virginia or Florida to win. So, barring a tie, the contest will wrap up tonight. I haven't taken the time to tally points, so a tie is still a possibility. My family is taking me to Kansas City tomorrow for Father's Day. If I get back at a decent time, I will post the results. Otherwise, I will post them tomorrow.

College World Series Contest, Phase 2
In case you haven't noticed, I've been running a little contest here for the past two weeks that revolves around the College World Series. Nine people have already entered and have a tiny head start. The CWS begins at 3:00 PM, eastern, on Saturday, June 13. So, all entries must be in by that point. If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. Or, just ask in the comments.

For instance, group A has Arkansas and Virginia squaring off in game 1 and Florida and Miaimi going in game 2.
A1 Virginia
A2 Miami
A3 Miami
A4 Florida
A5 Florida
A6/7 Miami
B1 LSU
B2 Vandy
B3 LSU
B4 Fullerton
B5 Vandy
B6/7 Vandy
Vandy over Miami
3 games
16 runs
For the sake of the tie breaker, DO NOT pick a number already chosen by someone else. Even if your teams do not make it to the finals, the tiebreaker will still apply to you in the event of a tie.
If you guess every game right, including how many games will be played in the finals, you can come out with 22 points. As for the prizes, I haven't figured that out yet. It will probably mostly consist of stuff brought home from Omaha.
The CWS begins at 3:00 PM, eastern, on Saturday, June 13. So, all entries must be in by that point. If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. Or, just ask in the comments.

All you have to do is pick one team from each slot for a total of eight teams. In the past, for every team that you picked that made it into the College World Series, you got one point. I mixed it up a bit last year and I am going to stick with that format. You can enter the second phase without participating in the first, but you might have some ground to make up.
I haven't figured out what the prizes are yet, but some of the prizes from the previous years include autographs from Hall of Famers Harmon Killebrew, Jim Rice, Rod Carew, and Bruce Sutter. I usually end up with some really good stuff at the College World Series. I just probably won't know what they are until I get back from Omaha on the 14th of June. Last year, I gave away signed photos of Steve Carlton and Dennis Eckersly.
This blog has been in the doldrums of late since I am lucky to post a card twice a week. So, to get a few extra contestants in the contest, you can get one bonus point just by pimping this contest on your blog. Just leave a link in the comments and I will chalk you up a point.
Here is the format that your entry (comment) should look like
Slot one: Virginia
Slot two: Arkansas
Slot three: Texas
Slot four: Florida St
Slot five: Rice
Slot six: Stony Brook
Slot seven: Vanderbilt
Slot eight: Arizona St
Link to your blog (which can be left on a separate comment, but must be submitted by Thursday night).
Make sure you specify which school you want. For instance, slot one has a bunch of California schools and slot four has a bunch of Florida schools. Make it obvious who you are picking.
If you have any questions, ask in the comments or email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com. The deadline to enter the first phase of this contest is 11:00 am (central) Friday and the link must be posted twelve hours prior to that. Good luck and thanks for playing.
Keep in mind that the main portion of this contest is filling out a College World Series bracket when that field is determined in a couple of weeks. Every year, there are a couple of people that enter the first phase of the contest that never end up filling out a bracket. Those people have yet to win this contest.

Royals Playoff Contest Results
The Royals made a great run through the playoffs, but ultimately came up two runs shy of winning it all. They ran into a beast of a pitcher who now is probably my least favorite player in baseball.
Sorry it took me so long, but the results are in. Nobody picked the Royals to lose in seven games. One person picked them to lose in six and that is our winner. Congrats to Paul, from Paul's Random Stuff. I will get your prize out to you sometime this week. If your address has changed, let me know.
Thanks to all that entered.

Kansas City Royals Playoffs Contest
It has been a while since I have posted a contest on here. Since my team has made it further than everyone thought that they should have, I have decided to hold a contest. It is the first annual Royals Playoff Contest. I hope that this will be a yearly thing.
All you have to do is predict how the Royals season will end.
If you think they will lose in the ALCS, just comment that they will lose in the ALCS and in how many games (4,5,6,or 7). Then guess how many runs they will score in the series. But, if you think that they will make it to the World Series, leave a comment that states whether or not they will win or lose the World Series, how many games it will take for that to happen, and how many runs they will score in the World Series.
In order to win, you first must have to predict their outcome (lose ALCS, win WS, lose WS). If you get that right, it will then go by games in the deciding series (4,5,6 or 7). If there are still two or more people still tied at that point, it will go down to runs scored by the Royals as the tie-breaker.
Say they win the World Series in six and and three people pick that they win, but one each picks game five, six, and seven. Whoever picked six would be the winner. But, if they won and two people predicted it and one said five and one said seven, it would go to the runs scored tie-breaker.
Just to hopefully avoid any confusion, the tie-breaker only applies to the following scenarios.
1. Two or more people correctly guess the same outcome and number of games. 2. Two or more people correctly guess the outcome, but are all off by one game (ie, two pick game 4 and one picks game 6 in a five game series).
If it happens to be that it goes six games and one person picks seven and two or more pick four, whoever picked seven will be the winner because that person was closest.
As far as picking the runs scored in the deciding series, you cannot pick a number picked by another contestant, regardless of whether or not you both picked the same initial outcome. And, in the off chance that it comes down to a tie-breaker and each contestant is off by the same amount, I will evoke the Price is Right Rule. Whoever is closest without going over will win. But, that will only happen if it comes down to two people and one is over by the same number that one is under.
It has been a really long day for me, proceeded by a really long week. I hope that this all makes sense. If something does not, email me at zman40 at hotmail dot com.
Just leave your picks in the comments to this post. You must enter by the time game one of the ALCS starts on Friday.
As far as winnings, the winner will win these three signed cards. Each person here has done something to help the Royals advance as far as they have.
We have signed cards by Christian Colon, Eric Hosmer, and Greg Holland.
Good luck and thanks for playing!

College World Series Contest Final Results
The College World Series finished up Wednesday night, with Vanderbilt edging out Virginia with a 3-2 game three win. The contest had been down to two contestants- Need More Cardboard and Wilson. Both had nearly identical results through their bracket with each person getting just four picks wrong. It came down to the finals with Wilson picking Virginia and NMC going with Vandy. With Vandy's win, the contest goes to Need More Cardboard. Congratulations! Give me your address and I will get your prize shipped to you at some point next week. Send it to zman40 at hotmail dot com.
Thanks to everyone that entered this year. This was the fifth year that I had held the contest and I had more brackets filled out this year than in any of the past ones.
I hope to see you all back next year!
Here is a look at what Need More Cardboard is bringing home.

College World Series Contest Prizes
Here is what everyone has been waiting for. This is the loot that I brought home with me from Omaha this past weekend. Whoever wins the contest will be bring home these.
Those are signed 8x10s from Aaron Boone, John Kruk, Steve Carlton, and Dennis Eckersley.
I have not been checking to see how all of the brackets are going, but hopefully there will be a battle for these. As always, good luck!

College World Series Contest, Phase 2
In case you haven't noticed, I've been running a little contest here for the past two weeks that revolves around the College World Series. Twenty-five people have already entered and have a tiny head start.
For instance, group A has UC Irvine and Texas squaring off in game 1 and Vanderbilt and Louisville going in game 2.
